Approaches to Program Evaluation Revisited
Just as there are many ways to peel an orange, there are also many ways to conduct a program evaluation. Therefore, it is especially important for stakeholders to be clear about what they are looking for in an evaluation. Important points to consider may be:
1. Do you want an evaluation that assesses the merit or value of the program in question?
2. Do you want an evaluation that will reveal strengths and vulnerabilities that can be used for future growth?
3. Do you want to be involved in the evaluation process?
4. Are you looking mostly for numbers and explanations of numbers or are you looking for information on participant experiences?
Your answers to all of these questions will push you toward certain evaluators and away from others, but if you are clear on what you want, you'll be able to find someone whose approach to evaluation
fits your needs.
